Practical Change in Business
How to implement changes that actually work in practice.
Ola Uleberg
Many companies struggle to implement changes that actually work. Solutions are often implemented without sufficient strategic planning, leading to reactive rather than proactive approaches.
Why Do Change Processes Fail?
The most common reason changes fail is a lack of clear communication. Employees don't understand why the change is necessary, and therefore resist it - consciously or unconsciously.
Five Keys to Successful Change
- Start with why: Explain the reason for the change before it happens.
- Involve early: Get key people on board from the start.
- Set clear goals: What is success? How do we measure it?
- Communicate continuously: Keep everyone updated along the way.
- Celebrate progress: Acknowledge small victories along the way.
Prioritize Based on Value
Not all changes are equally important. Prioritize initiatives based on return on investment. Ask yourself: What gives the greatest impact with the least effort?
By following these principles, you will increase the likelihood that your changes are actually implemented and have a lasting effect.
